About Mill Creek PA
Mill Creek is a township in the state of Pennsylvania that is located in the Erie County. It has the distinction of being the biggest suburb of Erie County, and is much bigger than the city of Altoona and Harrisburg. Mill Creek boasts of the Presque Isle State Park, the Waldameer Park along with numerous other key attractions. The township of Mill Creek was one of the first of its kind in the Erie Triangle to be settled. It was as well one of the original 16 townships in the Erie County. Families shifted from the bayfront settlements of the county, and eventually constructed diminutive hamlets in the area. This included Federal Hill, Kearsarge, Marvintown, and Welgeville. All of which ultimately became part of Mill Creek.
When the east to west roads were constructed, taverns cropped up after every mile or so. Situated along the Ridge Road (now Route 20), is the Nicholson Tavern, which is the last of its kind that is still in existence. Nicholson Tavern was constructed in the 1830s by Isabella Nicholson and her sons. At the moment it is still owned by the family, and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Presque Isle Light together with the Sommerheim Park archaeological District are also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The peninsula Presque Isle links the township of Mill Creek to the mainland. In 1921, this peninsula was established as a state park, and was eventually designated as a National Natural Landmark. Nowadays, this Mill Creek park is a bird sanctuary that boasts of more than 150 different species of birds. On the western direction of the Presque Isle is a well forested land that is referred to as the Hopkins Grove. In the 1890s, the Erie Electric Motor Company bought the grove and developed it into an amusement park. Today, the Waldameer Park has the distinction of been one of the oldest of its kind in the United States.

Presque Isle State Park
The Presque Isle State Park is situated in a 3,200 acre sandy peninsula, which arches into the Lake Erie. While also being the 10th oldest of its kind in the country. The Waldameer Park is as well one of the few trolley parks that are still functional in the United States. It was first proposed in the year 1997, and its very first tree was planted in the following year. At the moment, the Lake Erie Arboretum is home to more than 300 young trees, sourced from 225 tree species.
